Scholarship Applications

There will be 5 scholarships of $2,000 each granted to high school seniors who will be graduating in Spring 2025 to be used towards expenses at an accredited university, college, community college, junior college, trade, or vocational school.

Applications are due to the John Bieniewicz Scholarship Committee by APRIL 18th, 2025, and can be submitted via email to bieniewiczscholarship@gmail.com. Acceptable formats are .doc, .docx, and .pdf.

Applicants will be notified by JUNE 13th, 2025, whether or not they received a scholarship.

Application Requirements

  • Applicants must be graduating high school seniors with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

  • Applicants must be a certified USSF referee in the state of Michigan for at least 2 years as of Spring 2025. This means that the applicant will have been a certified USSF referee since Spring 2023.

  • Applicants must submit the following:

    • A completed application form

    • A copy of an official high school transcript

    • A written essay of approximately 1,000 words or less addressing:

      • Academic and/or athletic achievements, student organizations, special interests, community involvement, work and/or leadership experience.

      • The influence that soccer and refereeing has had on their life, including challenges, opportunites, enjoyment, how refereeing has impacted their life, and anything regarding their referee experience.

      • Future plans for after graduation

    • A letter of recommendation from a teacher and/or referee assignor
